New materials can save lives, help us to protect the environment and transform transport, agriculture and the products we use every day in our homes. Put simply, the expertise to create advanced materials gives us the power to change the world we live in.
From clean energy to cleaner water, advanced materials provide the building blocks of improvement and innovation in a range of sectors and disciplines. MSc Advanced Materials offers the chance to get to grips with the design, development and analysis of these materials, with a multi-disciplinary approach that offers a fascinating combination of chemistry, engineering and project management.
The course is suited to talented engineers and scientists with a passion for analysing and creating innovative materials. You’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the relationship between the structure and performance of different materials, the fundamental principles driving the development of innovative products and strategies for the design and development of novel materials.
You’ll need a good UK honours degree – at least a 2:2 – or the international equivalent, in a materials or chemistry-related subject. Graduates with engineering degrees may be considered on an individual basis to ensure that they have the chemistry background skills required for the individual research project. Applicants with relevant and extensive professional experience in the relevant fields will be considered.
