Masters Degree Description

The course focuses on disaster management and sustainable development, including frameworks and skills for addressing contemporary hazards, disasters and complex emergencies, in both post-development and majority world contexts. During the course, you will develop knowledge and analytical skills related to disaster risk reduction, emergency planning, evaluation in the humanitarian sector, early warning, response systems and sustainability. You will also have the opportunity to pursue specialisms in environmental/geographical information systems (GIS); physical and mental health in disaster management and development and integrated emergency management.

Entry Requirements

The course encourages diversity of intake in terms of experience, interests and qualifications to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and experiences. We welcome applications from those who have one of the following;

A first degree (lower second class or above) or international equivalent in a social science subject e.g. Sociology, geography, social work, psychology, health and environment
Applicants should have a good command of English, oral and written. If you are an overseas applicant, you should be able to demonstrate competence in the English language to a level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Applications are welcomed from those with relevant work experience. Suitable equivalent qualifications will be considered, particularly in the case of overseas and mature candidates.
