Infection Prevention and Control underpins the prevention and reduction in transmission of infectious diseases such as COVID – 19. This course, aimed at health and social care practitioners, provides you with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the principles of infection prevention and control, clinical knowledge of applied microbiology, health care surveillance, outbreak and incident management.
You will study the role infection prevention and control teams play in the prevention and management of communicable diseases.
Explore the prevention of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to keep patients safe.
Develop an understanding of infectious disease data and implications for patient safety.
Apply the principles of infection prevention and control within your clinical practice.
Teaching and assessment
You will be taught through distance learning. Your studies will be supported by the University’s virtual learning environment.

Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks, unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
You must:
be working in a health or social care environment
have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection.
have the ability to access and use online study guidance and support.
If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.
