The need for quantity surveyors (QS) is vital for the efficient financial management of construction projects. As a partner university of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the School of the Built Environment is instrumental in meeting the educational needs of QS graduates by building on their previous education and experience to prepare them for the demands of this profession.
There is consistent competition amongst those wishing to enter and develop a career in quantity surveying in order to gain an internationally recognised postgraduate qualification, such as the MSc from Heriot-Watt University. Successful completion of the programme develops the necessary skills to provide a quality benchmark recognised by prospective employers to enhance an individual’s career progression.
A relevant first or second class Honours degree, or a degree qualification, or equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government, acceptable to the University.

The programme is focused on delivering high quality graduates for Quantity Surveying and Built Environment consultancies. However, it is expected that some graduates will find employment within government agencies and with contracting organisations. A minority of graduates will find employment elsewhere such as PhD research, teaching, finance and the military.
