PGCE School Direct Secondary Education

  • DeadlineStudy Details:

PGCE: a full-time course commencing at the end of August 2015 and finishing by the beginning of July 2016

Masters Degree Description

We understand that you know where you want to end up as a teacher – either in a specific location or at a certain type of school. With our School Direct courses you will be able to search for a school you want to work in and then apply to work there to complete your PGCE.

As part of your training you will focus on the 11-16 age range and develop your subject specialism across the key stages. You will also gain some experience of the 16-19 age range. In addition you will get professional training around behaviour management, inclusion, planning and assessment.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have at least an upper second class honours degree in a cognate subject. Where an applicant has an upper second class degree in a non-cognate subject, they may be considered for interview with the understanding that they will need to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement programme prior to the commencement of the course. Applicants with a lower second class honours degree may be considered if they have extensive relevant work experience.

Practical Experience Substantial classroom based work experience (at least 150 hours in the previous 12 months) in a UK Secondary school in your chosen subject area and across both Key Stages must have been completed prior to you making your application. Experience of working with children in settings other than classrooms would enhance your application.

English Language Requirement: IELTS 6.5 with no skills below 6.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.
