PGCE School Direct Secondary Education

Applicants should have at least an upper second class honours degree in a cognate subject. Where an applicant has an upper second class degree in a non-cognate subject, they may be considered for interview with the understanding that they will need to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement programme prior to the commencement of the course. Applicants with a lower second class honours degree may be considered if they have extensive relevant work experience.

Practical Experience Substantial classroom based work experience (at least 150 hours in the previous 12 months) in a UK Secondary school in your chosen subject area and across both Key Stages must have been completed prior to you making your application. Experience of working with children in settings other than classrooms would enhance your application. 

English Language Requirement: IELTS 6.5 with no skills below 6.5, or an equivalent qualification. The University provides excellent support for any applicant who may be required to undertake additional English language courses.

Completing this course successfully will enable you to be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status. This route into teaching is designed to give you the best possible opportunity to secure employment within your training schools.
