The English Education MA offers a stimulating and intellectually rigorous course of academic and professional development, including supervised experience of the conduct of small-scale research. Designed to enable more theoretically informed praxis, it is relevant to practitioners with an interest in the teaching of English literature, literacy, language, media and drama, across all phases of education.
Normally a minimum of a second-class UK Bachelor's degree in English or a related area (e.g. media or drama) or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Knowledge and experience of teaching English literature, literacy and/or language as a curriculum subject (primary, secondary or tertiary) is essential.

The majority of our English Education MA students are already employed as practising teachers who are thinking about the next steps in their professional careers, for example as Heads of Department or taking up whole-school literacy development posts.
